Steve Schwartz

Steven Schwartz is the Deputy Executive Director of Ballot Initiative Strategy Center (BISC) and BISC Foundation. Steve manages BISC's business and organizational affairs. His responsibilities include fundraising, finances, human resources, administration, and evaluation. He serves as staff liaison to the Boards of Directors; lead contact for individual, corporate, and institutional investors. In January 2010 Steve was appointed Interim Managing Director of the organization to serve as a lead point of contact for operations, program delivery, and external relations during BISC’s Executive Search. Since the appointment of the Executive Director, Steve has resumed his role as the Deputy Executive Director.

Steve's expertise lies in building a sustainable fundraising program that seamlessly integrates with the operational, financial, management and governance demands of an expanding organization. Since joining BISC and BISC Foundation in 2005, Steve has worked across the organization to increase its size, scope, and impact. 

Steve has led an array of grassroots and grasstops fundraising, event planning, community organizing, and management efforts. He has consulted on fundraising efforts for several state and national organizations, and got his start in politics as Deputy Finance Director of the Michigan campaign to oppose Prop 2, an anti-LGBT ballot measure. 

Steve takes seriously his role in mentoring talented young professionals who are interested in advancing their careers and the progressive movement as a whole. In 2009 he received the Politics Magazine "Best Boss" Reed Award for this commitment.

Steve graduated from Creighton University in beautiful Omaha, Nebraska with degrees in Philosophy and Theology. He currently lives in Washington DC with his fiancé, Michael, and their dog, Gary.
