Voter ID filed for 2011 in Mississippi

Hattiesburg American: Fillingane, R-Sumrall, has filed an initiative with the Mississippi Secretary of State office, that if successful, would let the state's voters decide whether they should have to show identification at the polls.  And coming on the heels of yet another failed effort by the Legislature to enact a law addressing what has become a perennial question, a statewide referendum may provide an eventual answer. "I think (a statewide vote) is a great alternative and one we need to keep pushing," said Sen. Tom King, R-Petal. "If other states can do it, Mississippi certainly can."
