KTVQ: Personhood amendment petitions are now available to the public for signing. The Montana Prolife Coalition announced Wednesday they're working on an amendment that will change Article 2 Section 17 of the Constitution of the State of Montana. Currently the section reads, "no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law." The CI 102 Personhood Constitutional Amendment would amend the section to say: (2) As used in this section, the word "person" applies to all human beings, irrespective of age, health, function, physical or mental dependency, or method of reproduction, from the beginning of the biological development of that human being. (3) The legislature shall implement this section by appropriate legislation. The Montana Prolife Coalition is hoping to get the amendment on the November 2010 ballot. Before that's possible 49,000 valid signatures must be gathered by June 18th. Montana State Representative Ken Peterson, R-Billings, is confident about reaching that number. "I think it's doable in the state of Montana," Peterson states firmly. "We've got quite a large organization, a lot of people that are willing to a carry petitions, and a lot of people that feel very strongly about this issue."
