Officials to launch campaign against labor

Argus Leader: State Senate Majority Leader Dave Knudson and former state Rep. Joel Dykstra will announce plans Thursday to launch a campaign against a measure championed by organized labor. The measure, known as card check legislation, is currently being debated in Congress. It would enable employees to form unions if a simple majority sign cards saying they favor unionizing. Current federal law allows employers to ask for a secret ballot vote, and businesses say that card check will eliminate the secret ballot.

Union supporters counter that secret ballot elections would still be allowable, but they would be up to the discretion of employees rather than employers.
