Lawsuits raise another ballot title complaint

News Tribune: Both sides are suing Secretary of State Robin Carnahan and her staff, again, over the way initiative petition ballot titles are written. The St. Louis-based “Missouri Roundtable for Life” already has sued Carnahan six times over initiative petition issues, and filed a seventh lawsuit this week against Carnahan and State Auditor Susan Montee, challenging their work on a proposed initiative petition the Roundtable filed last month. And lawyer Alex Bartlett said he also has challenged the petition, but Laura Egerdal, Carnahan's spokeswoman, said Wednesday they have not, yet, seen it. Three of the previous Roundtable for Life cases were dismissed before trial, and the other three went to trial before Cole County Circuit Judges Jon Beetem, Richard Callahan and Patricia Joyce. The Roundtable has three appeals pending in the state appeals court in Kansas City.
