East Valley Tribune: State Representative Kyrsten Sinema claims Connerly is illegally hiring people from out of state to gather petition signatures. "We don't want criminals going door-to-door in Arizona. We don't want petition circulators lying to voters. We don't want out of state circulators gathering petitions in Arizona," said Sinema. "Connerly himself publicly acknowledged that half of his signature gatherers in the state of Colorado came from outside of the state of Colorado which is illegal in the state in the state of Colorado as it is here in Arizona." The group sent Connerly a letter asking him to guarantee that he'll follow state laws while trying to get the measure on the Arizona ballot. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema is using current reports of misconduct by circulators to demand Ward Connerly set up a toll-free hotline for Arizonans to report "misinformation, intimidation or fraudulent practices" by those circulating petitions. Sinema also wants Connerly to list the names of all petition circulators on his Web site and conduct criminal background checks on them "to prevent those convicted of identity theft, sexual assault or other crimes from gaining the personal information of Arizona voters." Sinema said Connerly's campaign is hiring minorities near homeless shelters to go into black and Hispanic communities to circulate the petitions. She said they are deceiving voters by telling them that the measure would end discrimination.
