Juneau Empire: House Majority Leader Kyle Johansen is renewing his push to reform Alaska's initiative process.
His bill is set for hearing in a House committee Monday.
The bill would set disclosure requirements for groups organizing initiative drives and require public hearings on proposed initiatives before elections, with pro and con positions presented.
Johansen says he wants to close what he sees as a loophole in the process. He says he's required to account for money he raises when he runs for office, and he believes those running initiative efforts should be held to greater account.
Johansen says he first raised the issue several years ago, but it went nowhere. He reintroduced a retooled measure last year and believes it has broad support this year.
