Arkansas AG Rejects Secret Ballot Amendment
Associated Press: The attorney general's office has rejected the language of a proposed constitutional amendment requiring that union elections be conducted by secret ballot. Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's office on Thursday rejected the ballot measure proposed by a group calling itself "Save Our Secret Ballot in Arkansas." An opinion issued by McDaniel cited what it said was confusing language in the text of the proposed ballot measure. The group pushing for the measure is chaired by Republican state Sen. Gilbert Baker, who is considering running against U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln next year. Baker has said the measure is intended to counter union-supported legislation in Congress that would make easier for workers to unionize. Baker said he was disappointed with the ballot title rejection and said the group's attorneys would try rewriting the measure to address McDaniel's concerns.
