Lazio joins Giuliani’s call for a constitutional convention

NY Daily News: Rick Lazio to Rudy Giuliani: Two can play at that game. Not content to let his potential rival for the GOP gubernatorial nod corner the market on beating up the state Legislature and suggesting fix-Albany plans, Lazio today called for doing away with the Senate and Assembly altogether and replacing it with "a new legislative branch comprised of a single body." (Casey Seiler has dubbed this the "Nebraska Option"). Lazio joined Giuliani's call for a constitutional convention and also said he agrees with Gov. David Paterson, the former mayor and another possible 2010 rival, AG Andrew Cuomo, that "spectacle in Albany has gone on far too long." Paterson issued a statement earlier today commending Giuliani for raising the constitutional convention idea, but he also cautioned that "real reform" is needed in Albany first. Lazio went out of his way in his unicameral Legislature statement to avoid singling anyone out for blame, saying only that the "Albany politicians have had their chance, and it's time for us to move towards the future."
