Six citizen initiatives may make Oregon’s November ballot

OregonLive.com: Six citizen initiatives turned in enough signatures to make Oregon's November ballot by Friday's deadline -- if the signatures are found valid by the Secretary of State's office. A measure that would create a system of medical marijuana dispensaries, and one that would increase minimum sentences for sex crimes and drunk drivers turned signatures in early and are likely to make the ballot, Secretary of State Kate Brown said. Others that may make it include measures to continue lottery funding to parks and wildlife, transfer legislative redistricting responsibility to retired judges, and two initiatives that would set up a casino in Wood Village. The casino measures were heavily funded, and were able to gather the signatures in seven weeks. The redistricting initiative is the closest call, Brown said. It turned in 125,948 raw signatures, and needs 110,358 to get on the ballot. The Secretary of State's office has 30 days to verify the names.
